An initiative aimed at supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Saudi Arabia through hosting a hackathon, exhibition, and entrepreneurial forum to provide an opportunity for young Saudi innovators, developers and entrepreneurs to tackle real world, everyday problems through innovative solutions.
The competition will stimulate discussions with experienced local entrepreneurs that gather to discuss & share real life hardships and successes faced throughout their journey. The event will include discussions, panels, pitching, and informal exchanges.


1. Parking Solutions

With increased demand of parking spaces due to lifting the ban on women driving, this challenge encourages you to apply your machine learning skills to build programs that can give parking solutions.

2. Time management

This challenge encourages you to create programs that alert users of waiting times and level of traffic in shops, malls, government offices, banks, Etc.

3. Recreational Activity

This challenge encourages you to create programs that aid in identifying outdoor touristic activities in the Kingdom


Winners will receive cash prizes of up to (SAR 100,000) , incubation and investment opportunities with Aramco Wa’ed Entrepreneurship Center and other investors.

Where & When

The Hackathon will be held on November 29th – 30th in Dhahran Techno Valley, Technology Transfer, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Building, & The main event will be held on the 1st of December in King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, Ithra! The venues will be filled with developers, designers and tech-enthusiasts for the weekend, who all want to create something new and impactful. Whether you’re a coding wizard, a creative designer or a business-minded hustler, Wa’ed Hackathon Event is the place for you.

Rules & Regulations

Please read the information below. Your registration to participate at the Wa’ed Hackathon means that you have read and accepted the following participation terms and conditions.

Please Read the following instructions carefully:
  • Saudi national only.
  • Participants must be between 18 and 27 years of age.
  • Each Hackathon participant must submit a registration application before the deadline 24/11/2018.
  • If an applicant wishes to form a team with someone they know they must specify in their application, and the other individual has to submit an application as well.
  • Teams can be formed of 4 to 5 people. Individual applicants will be assigned to a team.
  • Participants are highly encouraged to come prepared with their ideas around their given challenges.
  • Travel and accommodation arrangements are not covered by Wa'ed.

Participant represents and warrants that he or she is the sole author and copyright owner of the Submission, and that the Submission is an original work of the Participant, or if the Submission is a work based on an existing application, that the Participant has acquired sufficient rights to use and to authorize others; and that the Submission does not infringe upon any copyright or upon any other third party rights of which the Participant is aware, and that the submission is free of malware.

The Contest winners will be selected by a panel of judges. By submitting any Wa’ed Hackathon Entry, entrants release Wa’ed Hackathon, Sponsors, their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, representatives, agents, and advisors from any and all liability for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the decisions of the Judges.

Winners will be judged based on the following criteria:
  1. Logo slide.
  2. Snapshot of their application.
  3. Slide with their financial.
  4. Business model.
  5. Prototype.
  6. Quality and innovative nature of the idea.
  7. Level of difficulty of the technical solution proposed.
  8. Your motivation to join this event - we are looking for passionate people who have a desire to have an impact in their community.
  9. The originality of the idea that you want to work on during this hackathon and the potential impact on the community.

Teams are allowed to use any programming language they want (Java, C, BASIC, Pascal, PHP, SQL, Python, Ruby, etc). Equally important, teams can develop their projects on any platform they want, finding a good and feasible idea and deciding on the best way to develop it is what matters the most. At least one of the team members should have programming knowledge in order to develop at least part of the idea the team comes up with.

You agree that submission of an Entry in the Competition constitutes agreement to these Rules. These Rules form a binding legal agreement between you and Sponsor with respect to the Competition. Judges will choose the winning entries, and prizes will be awarded in accordance with these Rules.
